Family of Indian Sailor Seeks Clarity After His Death in Somalia

The family of Indian sailor Mohammed Tanweeruz Zaman is seeking answers following his death during a rescue operation on 29 September. Zaman was taken captive aboard the MT Honour 25, which was hijacked off the coast of Somalia on 21 April. After months of negotiations, a ransom of $1 million was reportedly not paid. The family alleges that Zaman was tortured, citing visible injuries on his body that they believe were not consistent with the official account of his death. They have approached various authorities, including the Ministry of External Affairs, for assistance in repatriating his body, but claim to have received no clear response. Zaman was the only Indian among five reported dead during the incident, which involved a rescue by the Puntland Maritime Police Force.
