Trump's Labor Secretary Resigns Amid Multiple Investigations
Lori Chavez-DeRemer resigned as US Labor Secretary on Monday amid investigations by the federal inspector general, congressional inquiries, and civil rights complaints. The investigations focused on allegations of professional misconduct, including misuse of department resources and inappropriate behaviour towards staff. Keith Sonderling, the deputy secretary of labor, will serve as acting secretary. The probe revealed evidence of abuse of federal spending limits during personal trips and inappropriate messages sent to younger female staff members. Four individuals have left their positions in connection with the investigation. Chavez-DeRemer's departure comes as the labor market faces challenges, including slowed job growth and rising unemployment rates.
