Saudi Arabia Extends $3 Billion Financial Support to Pakistan
Saudi Arabia has extended its $3 billion financial support to Pakistan, aiding the country in managing external debt repayments and foreign exchange reserve pressures. The rollover follows the original financing's maturity on October 31. Pakistan Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb confirmed the extension, stating it would last for a 'reasonable period.' This support is critical as Pakistan recently repaid $3.5 billion to the UAE, creating a financing gap. Additionally, Saudi Arabia has maintained a separate $5 billion deposit with Pakistan until 2028. Pakistan aims to reduce its external debt by $4 billion this fiscal year and another $3.5 billion next year, seeking to shift from short-term borrowing to longer-term financing options.
