Delhi HC Judge to Decide on Recusal Amid Political Controversy
Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma of the Delhi High Court is set to announce her decision on recusal at 4:30 PM today. The controversy stems from Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal's petition, where he argued for her to step aside from a case linked to the Delhi excise policy. Kejriwal represented himself in court, citing concerns over bias due to Justice Sharma's affiliations and her children's roles as government-empanelled lawyers. The Central Bureau of Investigation opposed the recusal, asserting that judges often engage with bar associations irrespective of political ties. Justice Sharma, who has over three decades of judicial experience, was appointed as a permanent judge on March 28, 2022.
