Ajay Banga, World Bank president and Indian-origin finance expert, has been appointed to the Board of Peace, a newly formed body overseeing Gaza's governance and reconstruction. Announced by the White House, this board is part of President Donald Trump's 20-point roadmap aimed at stabilising the region after significant violence, which has resulted in around 70,000 deaths. Banga, 63, brings over three decades of leadership experience, including a decade as CEO of Mastercard. The board, chaired by Trump, includes notable figures like former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. It will supervise the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, tasked with restoring public services amid ongoing conflict and a fragile ceasefire. The situation in Gaza remains critical, with reports of continued violence despite the ceasefire.
