Five Women Die After Receiving Fake Oxytocin Injections in Rajasthan

Five women died following Caesarean sections at two government hospitals in Kota, Rajasthan, after being administered oxytocin injections that contained no active medicine. Laboratory tests confirmed the injections were merely water, failing to prevent postpartum haemorrhage. The World Health Organization has sought information from the Government of India regarding the supply of these spurious injections. In response, the manufacturing licences of Jackson Laboratories in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh were cancelled after inspections by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation. This incident highlights ongoing concerns about drug quality and safety in India, prompting the Rajasthan State government to implement a three-layer drug testing system.
