US Vice President to Visit Islamabad for Iran Negotiations

US Vice President JD Vance is set to travel to Islamabad by Tuesday morning for negotiations with Iran aimed at ending the ongoing conflict, as a two-week ceasefire approaches its expiry. The ceasefire, announced by US President Donald Trump on 7 April, is under pressure, with Trump warning of potential military escalation if an agreement is not reached. Iranian negotiators received late approval from the supreme leader to attend the talks, amid internal pressures to maintain a hardline stance. The outcome of these discussions is critical, as the conflict has already disrupted oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global energy supplies. Senior US officials, including Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, will accompany Vance for the talks, which are expected to occur before the ceasefire deadline set for Wednesday evening Washington time.
