Intense Heat Dome to Affect Two-Thirds of the US

A significant heat dome is forecast to blanket most of the contiguous United States, beginning this weekend and lasting for at least a week. Daytime and nighttime temperatures are expected to exceed seasonal averages by 15 to 25 degrees Fahrenheit (8 to 14 degrees Celsius). Over 90 local temperature records may be tied or broken, with many being overnight records that pose health risks. The heat dome will primarily affect regions from Southern California to northern Minnesota, impacting around 24 million people. Meteorologists attribute the intensity and duration of this heat wave to climate change, stating that such extreme temperatures are at least five times more likely due to human-driven greenhouse gas emissions.
