Syrian Army Advances into Kurdish Territory Amid Rising Tensions
Syrian government forces have taken control of several towns in Kurdish-held areas, including the strategic town of Tabqa, following clashes with the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The fighting escalated after the SDF's withdrawal from positions east of Aleppo, which was intended to ease tensions. At least 24 civilians have been reported killed in the past five days, with thousands displaced. The US has urged Syrian troops to halt their offensive actions, fearing a wider conflict could jeopardize US interests and efforts against the Islamic State. The situation remains volatile as both sides accuse each other of violating agreements, and clashes continue over oil-rich regions. The conflict follows a decree from Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa aimed at recognizing Kurdish rights, but integration talks between Kurdish forces and the new government have stalled.
