Oil Prices Rise Following US Naval Blockade Announcement Against Iran
The United States has reinstated its maritime blockade on Iran, effective July 14 at 4 p.m. ET. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that American forces will enforce restrictions on vessels entering and leaving Iranian ports. This action follows a series of Iranian military strikes in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping route for global energy exports. The US plans to impose a 20% fee on cargo transiting the strait to cover maritime security costs. Iran has rejected the blockade, asserting its authority over the waterway and threatening military action against US forces. The renewed blockade comes after an earlier operation that redirected over 140 vessels and allowed more than 50 humanitarian aid vessels to pass. The situation has escalated tensions, undermining a recent ceasefire agreement between the two nations.
