US Military Strikes Vessel Breaching Iranian Blockade in Gulf of Oman
The US military disabled the Gambia-flagged cargo vessel Lian Star on Saturday after it attempted to breach a blockade of Iranian ports. This incident marks the sixth interception since the blockade began on 17 April. The vessel received over 20 warnings before a missile was fired into its engine room. The blockade aims to restrict Iran's access to foreign revenue amid ongoing tensions following the outbreak of war in the Middle East. Since April, the US military has redirected 116 vessels and allowed one to continue its passage. The situation continues to impact global oil and gas markets, with shipments significantly reduced.
