Indian Americans' Political Influence Grows Ahead of Midterm Elections
Indian Americans, numbering around 5.2 million, are increasingly influential in US electoral politics, particularly ahead of the November 3 midterm elections. They are one of the largest immigrant-origin groups in the US and predominantly support Democratic candidates, with 66% favouring Democrats for both Senate and House elections. However, their representation in Congress may decline from six to four members due to upcoming elections. Indian-American voters, concentrated in competitive states like Pennsylvania and Georgia, have a median household income exceeding $150,000, contributing significantly to campaign financing. A recent survey indicated that 90% of registered Indian-American respondents plan to vote in the midterms, which could impact closely contested races. Despite a decline in Democratic identification from 52% in 2020 to 46% in 2026, the community's political engagement remains strong.
