Iran Keeps Strait of Hormuz Closed Amid US Tensions
The Indian-flagged tanker Desh Garima, carrying 31 crew members, successfully crossed the Strait of Hormuz on April 18. This occurred on the same day Iranian forces fired upon two other Indian vessels, forcing them to turn back. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas confirmed that Desh Garima is expected to reach Mumbai on April 22. In response to the incidents, India summoned Iran’s ambassador to express concerns over the safety of merchant shipping. Maritime authorities are coordinating efforts to ensure the safety of Indian seafarers, while port operations in India remain unaffected despite the ongoing tensions in the Gulf region.
