FDA Approves Rasonque for Advanced Pancreatic Cancer Treatment
The FDA approved Rasonque (daraxonrasib), a new drug for advanced pancreatic cancer, on Wednesday. This first-of-its-kind pill targets mutated proteins in over 90% of pancreatic cancer cases. A study involving 500 patients showed those taking Rasonque had a median survival of 13.2 months, compared to 6.7 months for chemotherapy. The drug will be sold for approximately $39,800 per month. Common side effects include rash, nausea, and abdominal pain. Pancreatic cancer is difficult to detect early, with an estimated 67,000 new cases and over 52,000 deaths in the US this year. The FDA expedited the approval process, citing the need for effective treatments in a challenging cancer landscape.
