The Election Commission of India’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) has removed nearly 22% of voters in Telangana and 19.5% in Karnataka from electoral rolls. The largest deletions occurred in urban areas, with five Bengaluru constituencies losing over half their electors and nine of Hyderabad’s 15 constituencies seeing more than 40% cuts. The ECI has not published necessary data, such as the elector-to-population ratio, which is required to assess under-enrolment. In West Bengal, a similar process led to lakhs of disenfranchised voters, with only 82,000 of nearly 38 lakh appeals resolved in favour of electors. Critics argue that the ECI's lack of transparency and accountability undermines the right to vote, raising concerns about the integrity of the electoral process in India.
