Jaishankar Calls for Urgent UN Reform at Kautilya Economic Conclave
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar stated that the United Nations is 'gridlocked' and largely irrelevant in addressing major global crises, including the conflicts in Ukraine and the Gulf. Speaking at the 5th Kautilya Economic Conclave in Delhi, he emphasised the need for urgent reform, noting that the UN's membership has increased nearly fourfold since its inception, yet its decision-making remains outdated. Jaishankar highlighted that some countries are resisting these reforms while invoking Africa's interests. He argued for strengthening the UN rather than bypassing it, asserting that the organisation has provided significant service to the international community.
