Uttar Pradesh Raises Minimum Wages Following Protests in Noida

The Uttar Pradesh government has approved a 21% interim wage increase for workers in Gautam Buddha Nagar and Ghaziabad, effective from April 1. Unskilled workers will now earn ₹13,690 per month, up from ₹11,313, while semi-skilled and skilled workers will receive ₹15,059 and ₹16,868, respectively. This decision follows large-scale protests in Noida that turned violent, leading to over 350 arrests. The wage revision aims to address demands for higher pay and improved working conditions, although protests continue as workers seek further negotiations. The government has emphasized the need for balanced consultations with both workers and employers amid rising economic pressures.
