USCIRF Reports Vigilante Attacks on Sikh Gurdwaras in India

Officials from the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) have reported vigilante attacks on Sikh gurdwaras in India, including threats to religious leaders. USCIRF Commissioner David Anderson stated that the U.S. should condition security assistance on India's response to such violence. Another commissioner, Joe Grogan, highlighted that attacks on places of worship, including gurdwaras, churches, and mosques, violate international freedom of religious belief rights. The USCIRF, established in 1998, provides non-binding recommendations to the U.S. State Department. India has criticized USCIRF, calling it a biased organization lacking credibility.
