Supreme Court Addresses Voter Appeals Ahead of West Bengal Elections
The Supreme Court on April 13, 2026, informed the Election Commission that the right to vote is both constitutional and sentimental. This statement comes as lakhs of voters in West Bengal face exclusion from the electoral roll due to 'logical discrepancies.' Ahead of the Assembly elections, 34 lakh appeals have been filed by voters purged from the electoral roll, with over a lakh appeals pending before each of the 19 Appellate Tribunals. The court's remarks highlight the urgency of addressing these appeals in the lead-up to the elections.
