Abhishek Banerjee Attacked by Mob During Visit to Sonarpur
Police have arrested five individuals in connection with the mob attack on Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee in Sonarpur, West Bengal. The incident occurred while Banerjee was visiting the family of a TMC worker who was a victim of post-poll violence. During the attack, protesters hurled stones and eggs at him, prompting a chaotic scene. Banerjee, who was wearing a helmet, was escorted away by security personnel. He later alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was behind the attack. Mamata Banerjee, TMC leader and former chief minister, raised concerns about the lack of police presence during the incident. Following the attack, Banerjee was taken to Belle Vue Hospital, where he was treated for superficial injuries. The BJP has denied involvement in the attack, while opposition leaders condemned the violence and called for action against the perpetrators.
