Sitharaman Discusses India's Trade Strategy Amid Global Changes

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman addressed India's trade negotiations on Monday, highlighting the absence of a 'Lindsey Graham Bill' in Europe, which allows the US to impose tariffs on major Russian oil purchasers. She noted that India's energy purchases are driven by national interests and energy security. Sitharaman described current trade negotiations as complex, requiring countries to adapt to supply chain disruptions. She also mentioned that US-India trade talks may have reached a plateau, with both sides facing challenges in making further concessions. India's increased purchases of Russian crude since 2022 have raised concerns in Washington, which seeks to limit Russia's energy revenues amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. India continues to pursue trade agreements while maintaining its strategic autonomy.
