Supreme Court Seeks Responses on CEC's Alleged Unilateral Decisions

The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Election Commission of India and the Centre, seeking responses within a week regarding allegations against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. A plea filed by Rakesh Kumar Singh claims that Kumar made decisions without the approval of the other two Election Commissioners, specifically concerning the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The court noted that decisions must be unanimous or by majority, and indicated it could reconsider any actions taken unilaterally. The Election Commission has denied claims of dissent among its members, asserting that differing views are part of standard procedures. The case follows reports of objections raised by Election Commissioners Sandhu and Joshi regarding at least 14 decisions over the past 10 months.
