Super Typhoon Bavi Threatens China, Taiwan, and Japan

Super Typhoon Bavi is advancing across the western Pacific, with sustained winds nearing 200 km/h and spanning nearly 1,000 kilometres. The typhoon is expected to pass close to northern Taiwan before making landfall in Fujian province on July 11. Authorities in Taiwan have placed around 29,000 troops on standby, anticipating significant rainfall, with mountainous areas potentially receiving up to one metre. Japan is preparing for severe weather, with wind gusts forecasted to reach 252 km/h and rainfall up to 300 millimetres in some areas. Air travel has already been disrupted, with multiple flight cancellations in Japan and Taiwan. In China, the National Meteorological Centre has raised its typhoon warning to orange as residents prepare for the storm.
