Protests Close Hundreds of Schools Across France Amid Student Unrest
As student protests continue in France, Education Minister Edouard Geffray announced that 400 to 500 schools are expected to be fully or partially closed on Monday. Demonstrations began at the end of last month over teacher shortages and deteriorating school conditions, with reports of 24 schools vandalised and 78 teaching staff injured. Since September 28, approximately 5,000 individuals, mostly teenagers, have been arrested, and dozens injured, including a teenager who lost a hand from a police stun grenade. The estimated property damage is in the tens of millions of euros. Student unions have called for a national day of demonstration on Tuesday.
