Karnataka Faces Rainfall Deficits Amid Strong El Nino Effects
Karnataka has recorded 191 mm of rainfall from June 1 to July 8, a 28% deficit compared to the normal 266 mm. In July, the state received 75 mm, slightly above the normal 67 mm, but South Interior Karnataka experienced a 60% deficit. This region, crucial for kharif crops, may face adverse effects on agriculture due to the rainfall pattern. While some areas like Bengaluru and Dakshina Kannada may receive adequate rainfall, North Interior Karnataka is expected to see below-normal levels. Meteorologists predict a dry spell starting July 11, with potential impacts on future monsoon seasons and groundwater levels. The situation remains critical as only 30% of the monsoon season has passed, with 70% still to come.
