Maritime Threat Level Remains Severe in Strait of Hormuz
The Joint Maritime Information Center (JMIC) has issued an advisory urging commercial vessels to exercise heightened caution while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, citing a 'severe' maritime security threat. The advisory, released on July 10, emphasizes the importance of coordination with the US Navy's Naval Cooperation and Guidance for Shipping (NCAGS), although such coordination is not mandatory. The southern route through the Strait remains open for commercial traffic despite recent attacks on merchant vessels. JMIC reaffirmed that no nation can control or close the Strait, and US military forces are prepared to deter threats to maritime traffic. The advisory highlights the need for vessels to stay informed and maintain communication for safe transit amid ongoing security concerns in the Gulf region.
