Aditya Birla Renewables Acquires Sprng Energy for $1.8 Billion
Aditya Birla Renewables Ltd (ABRen) has acquired Sprng Energy from Shell Plc for $1.8 billion. This marks the second ownership change for Sprng Energy since its establishment in January 2017. Following the acquisition, ABrn's renewable energy capacity will rise to approximately 9.3 gigawatts (GW), making it the fifth-largest renewable energy company in India. Sprng Energy currently has 3.3 GW of operational capacity and an additional 1.7 GW under construction. The acquisition aligns with Aditya Birla Group's goal to reach 20 GW of renewable energy capacity in the coming years. The Indian government aims for 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030, with the country currently holding about 275 GW of renewable energy capacity.
