Wildfire in Southern Spain Kills 12, Injures 8, 23 Missing
A wildfire in Los Gallardos, southern Spain, has resulted in at least 12 fatalities, with eight individuals injured and 23 reported missing. The blaze, which broke out late Thursday, is one of the deadliest in Spain's history, exacerbated by high temperatures and dry conditions. Many victims attempted to flee the flames, leading to a high casualty rate. Authorities indicated that the fire was likely ignited by a fallen power line. Over 150 firefighters and 220 military personnel are currently engaged in firefighting efforts, as the fire has consumed more than 3,200 hectares (7,900 acres) of land. The regional leader noted that the steep terrain and dry vegetation have complicated containment efforts. Spain has faced severe heat waves in recent years, contributing to the increasing frequency and intensity of wildfires.
