India Focuses on AI and Supply Chains for National Security

Cabinet Secretary TV Somanathan highlighted the need for sovereign AI models and resilient supply chains to protect national interests during the Army Commanders’ Conference. He stressed the importance of civil-military cooperation and a whole-of-nation approach in both conflict and peacetime. India is developing around a dozen AI models under the India AI Mission, with an investment of ₹10,372 crore over five years. The military aims to enhance its capabilities with tens of thousands of locally-made unmanned aerial systems and loitering munitions. Key discussions at the conference also include lessons from the ongoing US-Israel conflict, focusing on self-reliance in defence and supply chain management. The Navy is reviewing its operational posture to safeguard maritime interests amid the West Asia crisis.
