Indefinite Strike by 2.5 Lakh Sanitation Workers Disrupts Madhya Pradesh
Nearly 2.5 lakh sanitation workers in Madhya Pradesh have initiated an indefinite strike, disrupting waste collection services ahead of Diwali. The workers are demanding the regularisation of their jobs and an end to the outsourcing system. The strike has particularly affected garbage collection in Bhopal, which generates 850 tonnes of waste daily. More than 400 vehicles are typically used for door-to-door collection in the state capital. Talks between union representatives and the Urban Administration Department have failed, prompting the union to escalate their demands to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. The strike has led to traders hiring temporary workers to manage waste in markets as the situation continues to unfold.
