S.Y. Quraishi Criticizes Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision Proce…

Former Chief Election Commissioner S.Y. Quraishi has expressed concerns over the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, describing it as focused on exclusion rather than inclusion. He stated that the process has disturbed free and fair elections, with crores of voters reportedly removed. The SIR is currently being conducted in 16 states and three Union Territories, affecting 36.73 crore voters. Quraishi highlighted that being registered as a voter is a constitutional right, criticizing the Commission for creating a perception that it is a privilege. He also questioned the effectiveness of the SIR in identifying illegal immigrants, noting that only a small number of foreigners were reportedly found amidst widespread voter deletions.
