Report Blames Sigachi Industries Management for Fatal Blast

An investigation into the June 30 blast at Sigachi Industries in Pashamylaram attributed the incident, which resulted in 54 fatalities, to management negligence. The report highlighted the use of untrained workers, poor machinery maintenance, and a disregard for safety protocols. It identified the sealing machine as the explosion's source, exacerbated by the presence of over 17 metric tonnes of Microcrystalline Cellulose powder. Despite the report being submitted to the government in September, no public disclosure or action against the management has occurred. The expert committee recommended annual risk assessments and improved safety measures for hazardous industries. The committee was chaired by B.V.Rao, with members including scientists from CSIR institutes.
