Shreveport Shooting Claims Lives of Eight Children, Gunman Dead
A shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana, on Sunday morning resulted in the deaths of eight children, seven of whom were the shooter's own. The gunman, identified as 31-year-old Shamar Elkins, was killed by police after a car chase. The victims ranged in age from one to twelve years old. Two adult women were also injured, one critically. The incident occurred across three homes in the Cedar Grove neighbourhood, with police responding to reports of gunfire shortly after 6 a.m. Elkins had a prior arrest in 2019 for illegal weapon use. Local officials expressed grief and called for community support in the aftermath of the tragedy, which is considered one of the worst in the city's history. The Louisiana State Police are investigating the officer-involved shooting.
