Supreme Court Directs 24-Hour Monitoring to Enhance Safety in Delhi

The Supreme Court has ordered the Delhi Police to establish 24-hour monitoring cells to enhance surveillance in vulnerable areas following a rise in sexual offences. The court emphasised the importance of continuous monitoring alongside CCTV installations to prevent crimes. It highlighted the need for increased patrolling around educational institutions and action against illegal eateries frequented by miscreants. Concerns regarding safety had been raised by residents prior to a recent gangrape incident, indicating deficiencies in police response. The court stressed that directives must translate into actionable measures on the ground, with a follow-up hearing scheduled for November 16.
