Modi Meets Global Leaders to Strengthen Bilateral Ties at G20

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held meetings with leaders from Italy, Japan, and Canada during the G20 summit in Johannesburg. With Italian PM Giorgia Meloni, Modi discussed enhancing cooperation in commerce, technology, and defence, and they adopted the India-Italy Joint Initiative to Counter Financing of Terrorism. Modi also met Japanese PM Sanae Takaichi to reaffirm the India-Japan Special Strategic Partnership, focusing on innovation and trade. Additionally, Modi and Canadian PM Mark Carney set a target of $50 billion for bilateral trade by 2030, aiming to deepen cooperation in defence and space sectors. India's trade with Canada surpassed $30 billion in 2024, making it Canada's seventh-largest trading partner. These meetings reflect ongoing efforts to strengthen international partnerships across various sectors.
