Supreme Court Rules on Friday Prayers at Bhojshala Site

The Supreme Court has declined to restore Friday prayers at the Bhojshala Temple-Kamal Maula Mosque complex in Madhya Pradesh. Instead, it directed authorities to provide a nearby space for Muslims to offer prayers as an interim arrangement. The court upheld a Madhya Pradesh high court ruling that declared the site a temple of Goddess Saraswati. The bench, led by Chief Justice Surya Kant, stated that the Archaeological Survey of India must not make structural changes without permission. The Supreme Court will review whether the high court could determine the site's religious character and the applicability of the Places of Worship Act, 1991. The decision follows appeals from community representatives challenging the high court's judgment.
