Supreme Court Directs CBI to Ensure Witness Examination in Manipur Case
The Supreme Court has instructed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the trial court to ensure the appearance of two key victim-witnesses in the Manipur sexual violence case. The court set dates for their examination on October 7, 9, and 28. During the hearing, concerns were raised regarding the impact of bail granted to two accused on witness willingness to testify. The trial is part of ongoing monitoring of cases linked to the ethnic violence in Manipur, which began on May 3, 2023, resulting in hundreds of deaths and thousands displaced. The court previously suggested establishing special trial courts for cases related to this violence.
