OpenAI Engineer Arrested for Planting Listening Device in Conference Room

A 35-year-old Saudi engineer, Abdulrahman Alfozan, was arrested for allegedly planting a listening device in OpenAI's conference room. The device, concealed in toilet paper, was installed around September 28 and discovered on September 30. Alfozan, who worked at OpenAI since July 2025, faces charges for intercepting oral communications and could receive a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. OpenAI reported finding a second listening device in Alfozan's bag and stated that it used its AI models to identify him as the suspect. The FBI is conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident, which raises concerns about surveillance in the AI sector.
