Three Tankers Transit Strait of Hormuz Amid US Blockade

On the first full day of the US blockade on Iranian ports, three vessels, including two US-sanctioned tankers, transited the Strait of Hormuz. The vessels were not heading to Iranian ports, thus unaffected by the blockade. The Panama-flagged tanker Peace Gulf is en route to Hamriyah port in the UAE, while the sanctioned tanker Rich Starry, carrying 250,000 barrels of methanol, is the first to exit the Gulf since the blockade began. The US announced the blockade following failed peace talks with Iran. The International Energy Agency reported a significant drop in global oil demand growth due to the conflict, projecting an 80,000 bpd decrease this year. The Strait of Hormuz is crucial for global energy shipments, with over 20 million bpd flowing through it before recent disruptions.
