India Forms Group to Address Export Challenges Amid West Asia Tensions
India has established an inter-ministerial group to assist exporters facing trade disruptions due to tensions in West Asia, a key export market. Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal stated that the government will use various policy tools to support exporters and has set up a multi-ministry support desk. Exporters have reported issues such as changes in routing, vessel scheduling, and increased freight costs, with shipping lines diverting vessels via the Cape of Good Hope, potentially adding 15-20 days to transit times. The ministry is in dialogue with shipping companies to address these challenges and ensure exporters receive necessary support.
