RSS Offshoot Urges India to Block Starlink Over Security Concerns
The Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM), linked to the RSS, has urged the Indian government to deny Elon Musk's Starlink permission to launch commercial satellite broadband services, citing national security risks. The SJM expressed concerns that Starlink's technology could allow Indian internet traffic to bypass domestic gateways, complicating lawful monitoring. The government has previously stated that its regulatory framework is fair. SJM's national co-convenor Ashwani Mahajan highlighted the need for internet services to be controllable during security emergencies. He also mentioned that India's own satellite internet services could be more cost-effective and secure. The SJM's stance follows Musk's comments about alleged obstruction by 'oligarchs' in India, which the government has rejected.
