Supreme Court Directs States to Implement Trauma Care Helpline Within Three Mon…
The Supreme Court has mandated all States and Union Territories to operationalise the emergency helpline number '112' for trauma care within three months. This directive follows a plea from the Savelife Foundation, emphasizing trauma care as a right under Article 21 of the Constitution. The court also instructed the establishment of a good samaritan grievance redressal system and required compliance reports from states through monthly meetings. Additionally, the Centre is to issue a medical rescue protocol and ensure that ambulances comply with industry standards, including GPS tracking. States must also create trauma registries and conduct public awareness campaigns regarding the helpline and cashless treatment schemes for road accident victims within specified timeframes.
