Rahul Gandhi Files Petition Against Election Commission in Supreme Court
On Monday, Rahul Gandhi and leaders from the INDIA bloc submitted a petition to the Supreme Court challenging the Election Commission of India's (ECI) Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The petition alleges large-scale voter deletions and irregularities, claiming the SIR's implementation violated constitutional provisions. It seeks to declare the SIR invalid, citing concerns over the exercise of power by the Chief Election Commissioner without consensus from other commissioners. The petition also highlights issues regarding the modification of Form 6 and the alleged deletion of approximately 13 crore names from electoral rolls. Gandhi, as Leader of the Opposition, argues that these actions threaten the integrity of the electoral process and the constitutional right to vote. The petition requests an independent review of the ECI's decisions and the preservation of electoral records to ensure transparency and accountability.
