Rajnath Singh Highlights India's Role Amid West Asia Conflict

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh addressed the escalating conflict in West Asia on March 6, 2026, emphasizing the region's significance for global energy security. He noted that disturbances in the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf could adversely affect the global economy and supply chains. Singh stated that as a major maritime nation, India must provide leadership during these changing geopolitical times. He refrained from commenting on recent military actions, including the U.S. sinking of an Iranian warship, which resulted in the deaths of at least 87 Iranian sailors. The conflict has intensified following U.S. military strikes on Iran on February 28, leading to a series of retaliatory attacks by Iran targeting Israel and U.S. military bases in the Gulf region.
