Punjab CM Discusses Border Fencing and Seeds Bill with Amit Shah
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi to address issues affecting farmers and border security. Mann raised concerns about border fencing, stating that farmers currently face difficulties accessing their fields beyond the security fence. He reported that Shah agreed in principle to move the fencing closer to the international boundary, potentially allowing thousands of acres of farmland to be cultivated without restrictions. Mann also opposed the proposed Seeds Bill 2025, claiming it undermines Punjab's representation and lacks adequate farmer protections. Additionally, he highlighted logistical challenges in foodgrain movement, including unpaid commissions and storage capacity issues. Mann reiterated Punjab's stance against the Satlej Yamuna Link canal, citing water scarcity concerns.
