Supreme Court Rules POCSO Act Applies to Child Trafficking Cases

The Supreme Court has ruled that the POCSO Act applies to cases of commercial sexual exploitation involving minors. The court clarified that the consent of child victims is irrelevant, and any use of coercive means in trafficking is a crime. It emphasized that Article 23 of the Constitution prohibits all forms of human trafficking. The court also directed a comprehensive approach to prosecution and rehabilitation of victims, highlighting the need for sensitivity in handling such cases. This ruling follows a petition by NGO Prajwala aimed at enhancing protections for trafficking victims.
