Modi Highlights Agriculture's Role in India's Economic Growth
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the third webinar of the Budget Webinar Series, emphasizing agriculture's significance to India's development. The sector is projected to contribute 15.6% to national income in FY26 and employs 46.1% of the workforce. Modi noted that agriculture grew at an average annual rate of 4.4% over the past five years, driven by livestock and aquaculture. He highlighted initiatives like AgriStack and the National Mission on Edible Oils to enhance market access and crop diversification. The government plans to boost production in fisheries and animal husbandry, aiming to add 2 million tonnes to current fish output. Modi also stressed the importance of women-led development, targeting three crore additional women entrepreneurs by 2029. He reiterated the need for effective state-level execution to complement central initiatives.
