India Calls for Accountability in Attacks on UN Peacekeepers
India has urged accountability for attacks against UN peacekeepers, emphasizing the need for enhanced safety measures. As one of the largest troop-contributing countries, India has deployed over 3,00,000 troops across 50 missions. Colonel Tarunendra Pratap Singh highlighted the importance of structured consultations for troop-contributing countries in shaping mission mandates. He also noted the deployment of 160 women peacekeepers and the significance of their role in peacekeeping operations. India has been actively involved in peacekeeping for over seven decades and is prioritizing this commitment as part of its candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the term 2028-29. Singh paid tribute to the 184 Indian peacekeepers who have lost their lives in service.
