Oxford Vaccine Group Launches Phase I Trial for Ebola Vaccine

The Oxford Vaccine Group has initiated a Phase I clinical trial for the ChAdOx1 BDBV vaccine against the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus. The trial, involving 50 healthy adults aged 18 to 55, began 57 days after the WHO declared the outbreak a public health emergency. The Serum Institute of India has manufactured 620,000 doses of the vaccine candidate and supplied 4,000 doses for the study. The ongoing outbreak has resulted in 1,873 confirmed cases and 672 deaths in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and 20 cases with two deaths in Uganda. The initiative is funded by an $8.6 million programme from the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, supporting rapid vaccine development and collaboration.
