Over 2,800 Child Trafficking Cases Pending Trial in India

India has over 2,800 pending child trafficking cases, with Tamil Nadu reporting the highest number at 748. Jharkhand follows with 386 cases, while Delhi and Rajasthan have 269 and 256 cases, respectively. The Supreme Court has mandated that trials be completed within six months of the issuance of a circular by high courts. Reports from various high courts indicate significant delays, with the Calcutta high court noting a reduction in pending cases from 1,317 to 227 between June and August 2025. Other states with notable pending cases include Assam (191), Kerala (118), and Uttar Pradesh (112). The Supreme Court is set to hear the matter again on April 8.
